Coolin’ Down

Coolin’ Down

Headed out for a chilly Thursday night walk.
Headed out for a chilly Thursday night walk.

Mica sez: I noticed you’ve been more excited about walkin’ lately, Murph. What gives?

Murphy sez: It’s not 9 billion degrees out, for one thing. I like walkin’ when it’s cool. We can go fast, and smell lots of stuff, and not fall over half-ded when we get home. It’s awesome!

Mica sez: It is more comfy out, for sure. Of course we have to walk after dark now, which is okay until the lights in our leashes both run out of batteries at the same time when it’s pitch black. Bad enough other people can’t see us, but I get kinda jumpy when there’s not even a moon out.

Murphy sez: Yeah, well, that runner had it coming. He’s lucky we didn’t both go after him, sneaking up on us like that. Those guys are like cats. They should have to wear bells or something so we know when they’re coming up behind us. Sheesh!

Mica sez: I think I scared him pretty good too, so we’re even. And J has reminders set to charge our leashes weekly now (and on different days), so we shouldn’t run out of light either. If she could just control the rain, we’d be all set. I mean, we missed two walks last week on account of rain. So. Not. Good.

Murphy sez: Yeah, but we get extra bones or bully sticks when we have to skip a walk, so it’s not really that bad. I’d rather be dry – and I know you would be too, since you were a total pansy and wouldn’t go out for nearly 24 hours when that big storm came through. Geez. It’s not healthy to hold it that long, dude.

Mica sez: Mmm…bones. Speaking of which, I think J brought some new ones in the other night. You know, the weird night where she and B left for a little while, and then J came back and walked us, and then she left again, and then they both came back? One of those times, I’m sure I smelled new bones. Did you see ‘em? Or am I just hallucinating?

Murphy sez: Nope – you’re not hallucinating. I saw her try to sneak ‘em into the treat cupboard. And I smelled ‘em on her hands, too. What the heck is up with all that in and out stuff, by the way? I mean, they say we’re bad about going in and out, in and out, and then they do the same thing! Silly humans.

Mica sez: I don’t know where they go, but it happens one night a week all winter long. And they always smell like lots of weird stuff when they get home. I think you came to live with us after it was over last year. I don’t know why they don’t just take us with, wherever they go. But as long as we get our walks, I guess it doesn’t matter. Much.

It’s gettin’ colder out, too. Took me forever to warm up under a blanket after last night’s walk. J should get a sweater made for you before winter comes. I wonder what color she’ll make?

Murphy sez: I heard her mumbling something about a stash the other day, and yarn that would go with my fur. And cleaning the office so she could find the stash, whatever that is. So I think she’s workin’ on it. Or will be soon, maybe…

Until then, we’ll just have to keep walkin’ fast and cuddlin’ up under blankies when we get back. Still not a bad gig, eh Mica?

Mica sez: Not bad at all, Murph. Not bad at all.
